Match report
Strange things happen on Halloween, and this year was to be no exception.
Llangefni were the visitors - all the way from Anglesey - and the
Stingers were keen to hang on to their top-of-the-league status against
these new opponents. The Manager got the team all fired up, and the
Yellows started brightly and with passing galore. It wasn't long until
the Stingers found a 'leek' in the Welsh defence and Eve Talbot was
able to strike a volley into the back of the net. She soon got her
second from some excellent build-up play by Mini, Scouse and Jinny,
who crossed the ball inch-perfect for Eve's connecting forehead and
a spectacularly rare headed goal. Talbot got her third (can you see
where this is going..?) and quite frankly probably the best goal I
have ever seen, with a stunning drive from 35-yards out to make it
3-0 to the Yellows. Stingers kept attacking, and now it was the turn
of Jinny, who decided to take the keeper on herself and struck high
into the net from inside the box. On a roll, Jinny also got the fifth
(yes, fifth!) goal after Eve steamrollered her way through the Llangefni
defence and hit the bar. Jinny was on hand to convert the rebound
with her less-favoured left foot. Stingers went into the half-time
break on top of the game, and wondering- would Jinny make it "hat-trick
or treat" in the second half?
The team continued from where they had left off, attacking and challenging for every ball. They soon won a free-kick, and our very own Galactico
Eve floated the ball almost serenely into the top corner with her left
foot. Five minutes later, Jinny ran the ball down the right wing,
brought it inside and shot across the goal. The ball, almost defying
physical laws, managed to skim the crossbar, spin off and hit the
bar once again. Thankfully Rachael 'call me Blade' Taylor was on hand
to calmly beat the keeper with her left foot. That is 7-0, in case
you forgot your abacus. Eve decided to have one last excursion into
the box, and her almost solo goal 'Tal-bot' finished Llangefni off.
Still attacking to the end, the ninth goal came when sub Joey ran
the ball down the left, passed in for Kate Gardener who let the ball
run past the last defender and put it neatly in the left corner. 9-0,
Champagne flowed and everyone was rather chuffed.

Eve, Tess Match report
Although the manager was spoiled for choice last week, this week the
Stingers were struggling for numbers. With Jinny injured against GMP
Lisa
filled in on the right wing. Scouse dutifully made the move to left-back,
as Katie Fingers was absent due to family commitments. Gwen moved
to
right-back and Tess made her comeback up front.
The match started slowly but Leigh played physically, and something
didn't
quite gel within the Stingers side. Mini and Jackie Ryan worked hard
in
central midfield to win the ball and feed it out to the wingers. Rachael
Taylor made several runs out on the left but often found her way impeded
by a swarm of defenders. Eve took the ball through the middle but
could
not hit the target. At the other end the defence worked very hard
to keep
Leigh out, with Gwen clearing excellently several times and Shelley
marshalling the back four to play the home side offside. This was
all in vain however, as the referee seemed unwilling to make the decisions
and a Leigh striker broke away, netting fifteen minutes into the game.
The yellows won a string of corners, but the wind made it difficult
and some never reached the box. When they did, they were stoutly cleared
by the Leigh defenders. The score was 1-0 at half time.
The second half brought about another change in formation as Scooby
came
on for Lisa. The yellows looked more composed, and despite the apparent
disadvantage of playing uphill, managed to put their new-found passing
flair to good use. After a great long-ball by Jackie Ryan, Eve did
her
steam-train routine and beat the keeper, slotting in from a rather
acute angle and delighting the visiting crowd. There was a scare towards
the end
of the second half, when Jane had the ball kicked from her hands by
a Leigh striker. Thankfully the referee saw that particular incident
and disallowed the 'goal' that ensued. Tempers flared towards the
end, as neither side seemed happy with the decisions made by the referee
but the scored remained level. A draw was enough to keep the Stingers
at the top of the table, but the team will certainly be fired up for
the home fixture in January. Lisa Harvey-Smith

Emma Hunter (sub-Eve, 50) Match report
Although the Stingers have the greatest respect for the "Girls
in Blue",
there can be few civvies who would not relish a friendly sparring
session against the old bill. This was to be the litmus test for a
buoyant yellows side that has won its last four games, answering the
question - can we beat high quality opposition? That answer is a resounding
YES. The first half was tight, with a few opportunities for each side,
one GMP striker hitting the post and the ball being hurriedly cleared
by Shelley. Jane also made several confident runs to the edge of her
area, rendering the GMP attack impotent. The Yellows also had opportunities
squandered, but the sides were tied at the break.
The second half was similarly matched, but the 30-strong crowd (similar
to
an average Crystal Palace game) became more vocal and the players
did not disappoint. The defence (and noteably Katie) defended solidly.
Eve was brought on after a foul on Emma Hunter in a goal-scoring position.
Shelley curled the ball in to an un-marked Eve. She controlled the
ball with her first touch, and scored with her second. A class act
all will agree, making it 1-0 to the Stingers.
The Police side persisted however, and 15 minutes later the tall number
10 sneaked a chip over Jane after being left in too much space. There
was more counter-attack by the Yellows, Eve breaking away after being
set up by Rachael Taylor but putting the ball over the bar. Another
chance came with 9 minutes on the clock and this time Maxine was in
the perfect position to slot the ball past the keeper, putting Stingers
2-1 up and riding high. They hung
on, despite pressure to the end and were deserving victors. The cheers
and celebrations at the final whistle showed how much the vitory meant
to the home side, whose winning streak has been a source of inspiration
for the whole team.
A song for fans:
To the tune of "Land of hope and glory"....
We all follow the Stingers,
Over land and sea (..and Glossop!)
We all follow the Stingers,
On to victory! Lisa Harvey-Smith

Match report
Unbeaten records seem to be in vogue this year and although Stingers
have only managed three on the trot before this fixture, the confidence
searing through the club was almost tangible. Even though the squad
was to see a number of changes in personnel it became obvious from
kick off that Stingers were on course to a fourth successive victory.
A swirling wind and a high defensive line from ‘Brook’
forced most of the game to be played in a very congested midfield
but with some incisive quick passing Stingers managed to break the
deadlock. Jin got herself on the score sheet first and Max followed
shortly after with a stunning looping shot coming in from the left.
Polly was up next after being put through by Mini and kept her head
to steer the ball pass the impressive visiting keeper.
Going in 3-0, Stingers were all too aware of the previous fixture
between the two sides, and were determined not to let Brook back in.
Rach came on to replace Polly (60mins) and with her first touch scored
a wonderful goal from the left. The best was definitely saved till
last though; Rach who was giving their right back a torrid time, with
Gene Kelly feet and Linford Christie pace, drove down the left and
laid a perfect square pass off to Mini, who in turn took one touch
passed an oncoming defender and sent an audacious chip nestling magically
in to the net. 5-0, 12 points out of 12, 24 goals in six games and
a positive goal difference – God I love statistics! Karen

Match report
It was with some measure of foreboding that the Stingers re-visited
Glossop, home of a very heated game last season. With a winning
streak in full progress however, the spirit in the camp was high.
The Yellows played as a unit, with the midfield keeping the ball
safely in the Glossop half and Lisa, Jinny and Eve pushing forward
and keeping the hosts' defence under pressure. Inside 20 minutes
the first breakthrough came, when Eve was pushed in the back and
won a free-kick 25 yards out. She made easy work of converting the
kick, leaving the goalie almost rooted to the spot and the Stingers
deservedly ahead. The Yellows stayed firm, leading to several corners,
many of which were cleared scrappily by the Glossop back four. The
keeper was tested by long shots from Katie Fingers, Eve and Lisa,
but none had enough sting to make it to the back of the net. With
Jinny commanding the right wing, stingers were able to make it 2-0
from a low cross which, although being intercepted by the keeper,
was fumbled to the floor and it was a simple slide in from Lisa
to touch it across the line.
After a half-time talk with Karen's new high-tech magnetic football
pitch
thingy, the players kept their discipline. The defence stayed water-tight
and a superb long-range shot from Jackie Ryan shocked Glossop and
delighted the Yellows and put them 3-0 up after 55 minutes. A fourth
goal came from a Scouse corner, placed at the near post and headed
into her own net by the Glossop number 14. In the last 25 minutes,
subs Shell, Kate Gardener and Tess were brought on. The team held
on to their four-goal lead, and deservedly so. Three wins in a row,
watch out Arsenal!
