Match report
Stingers only had 12 players and after a poor run of results due to working
commitments the Stingers knew they needed a win or a draw would
suffice. The game started off badly for the Stingers with an early goal from
Buxton. Stingers marking wasn't up to standard with Buxton having a lot of the initial possession. Curly Emma and Nic were trying hard to get shots
on target and we knew it would only be a while before it came to fruition.
Buxton were knocking the ball over the top and unfortunately not on my
line the ball went right over my head. Stingers were determined to get
something from the game with Scooby lofting balls into the Buxton area.
The Stingers got their break when from a CORNER kick curly Emma scored
a magnificent goal which left the keeper and Buxton support stunned.

Stingers followed with a pressure period on Buxton which paid off with
a challenge from Nic when the Buxton goalie dropped the ball and Nic
capitalised. A positive team talk at half time proved useful as Stingers
came out fighting. Buxton seemed to lose their steam and couldn't really
control the game, some unfortunate injuries occurred for Buxton and I was nicely elbowed in my back. Buxton had a few corners which didn't produce anything and Stingers were determined to hold tight at the back. Some hard challenges followed but the mighty yellows stood firm and were happy with what was probably a fair result.

Stingers are back and here's to the FINAL that we worked so hard to
get to and deserve to be in, so come on yellows we play the best football in the league so let's get our pretty heads up and show everyone what we are made of.

Match Report

.....And then Eve lashed in her sixth for another amazing Stingers victory, winning 25 nil away at Leigh....er...no, that must've been the dream I had on Saturday night, not the actual match itself, a report of which is as follows:

Like quite a few of Stingers fans and supporters, me and Jo found out that there is no junction 14 on the M60 heading to Leigh and ended up driving round town / through country / past lakes / over hills / over bridges / under bridges, (ooh, it was just like Chigley) (you have to be over 35 to get this reference I think) etc for quite a while, missing the first 20 minutes of the match. Thanks to Nic we kept up with the score, which went like this; "Eve scored a blinder, then they equalized. Oh no they've got another", just as we arrived and joined everyone in the lovely sunshine.

On Leigh's super-bouncy sloping pitch, playing with what had to be a basketball in disguise, Stingers found it difficult to keep possession and the game went a bit pinball. After (or before; it's hard to remember when you don't write it down) we'd let in a third goal, I don't know if it was frustration, sun stroke or accidental lipstick poisoning, but Eve went a bit doolally and was subbed with Bo Derrick (younger viewers might have to look this one up on that new fangled interweb too), aka Maxine, at half time.

The second half continued with the Yellows working it down the wings or through the middle, with Nic, Jackie and Rachaels Taylor and Brown all getting in good shooting positions, only for Leigh players to arrive with some strong last ditch tackling. We got the score back to 3-2 after Maxine sent in a corner, which was then turned into the box by Nic, latched onto by Jackie Ryan who's shot was deflected in by a Leigh defender. Meanwhile, Leigh worked it over the top, with runners collecting the ball and shooting from distance, a tactic that obviously worked well for them as they went 5-2 up by the final whistle, ending any hope of a Stingers fightback with a well taken volley from the edge of the area, which fizzed past Abi, who was deputizing in nets for Jane.

I think the play-every-three-days end of season fixture pile up has definitely caught up with us over the past few games, along with key squad members missing for crucial matches, so everyone will need to be giving their all at Buxton on Wednesday evening. Remember, Buxton are playing at a different pitch to usual (directions to appear on the website soon hopefully, otherwise we won't know where to go!) and it takes for f**king ever to get down the A6, so leave as early as possible.

After the chip butties laid on by Leigh, eaten while watching the other FA Cup semi final (so at least Katie Fingers went home reasonably happy), we all headed home to Manchester again, only for me an Jo to end up in Eccles (sorry Jo, my fault), like you do. On a brighter note, you'll all be pleased to know that Mickey's snot and Rachael's blood (from a nasty ball-right-in-the-face nosebleed) (just as well Doctor Polly was on hand to check it wasn't broken) have been washed out of my hanky, which has come up a treat.

Match Report
Stingers travelled to Urmston somewhat nervous about the fixture and the traffic!!

The game started ok with Urmston immediately knocking the ball over our defenders and the game was scrappy in places. The ball fell to mini who tried to lob the keeper who managed to push the ball over the bar. For some very strange reason a goal kick was given even though this was seen by the whole Urmston population. After around 15 mins the Urmston striker broke free and a shot which should have been an easy save for me but I took my eye off the ball and it went right through my hands. Stingers battled on and went into the second half fairly confident that we were the better team. Blade was subbed and Eve brought on for the second half. Eve was being pulled all over the place as she tried to battle her way through a very physical Urmston side. To watch from my goal mouth was extremely frustrating. Stingers were trying their hardest to produce some magic, Mini had 1 shot on goal but to no avail. Urmston got a second goal which sealed the game. The Stingers left the field (in the pitch black) and despondent at the result which could have been the other way round. Nic played tirelessly again, so much so her hair went all curly. I take responsibility for the goals as normally I would have saved them but it obviously wasn't meant to be. Stingers must win their last 4 games so come on yellows!!

Thanks to all the supporters who braved the local chip shop and wind to spur us on, not to mention the armed robbery across the road from the pitch during the match!

Match Report
On another scorcher the Stingers went into the game against Deans knowing that we needed as many points as possible to be ahead on goal difference with Urmston who have a game inhand. We had a downpour of hailstones ten minutes before kick off and things looked bleak.

Stingers started extremely strong with various chances against a team of 10. Deans couldn't get the Stingers out of their half with the ball being passed around really well by the mighty Yellows. With so many goals scored by the Yellows I have lost the sheet of paper from Pips that listed them! Nic got 4 goals and had a really good game, Nic worked really hard from the start to finish. Scooby got 2 goals, Rachael Taylor got one, Mini got another and the little american added a further. Deans appeared to be completely deflated as they just didn't have the pace to keep up with our play. Craig David, I mean Maxine, was subbed in the second half and Polly and Emma came on with Katie Fingers going off to. Polly scored a good goal which no doubt will build her confidence. I touched the ball 3 times throughout the whole game which was extremly dull and then we had another hailstone downpour ten minutes from the end. Overall another fantastic performance from the Yellows.

Tracksuits are on order for the final and I am co-ordinating so any questions just ask...

Match Report
Despite beating Frodsham Rangers 5-2 at home back in October, Stingers knew they had to be on their guard when playing the return fixture as the Cheshire players are a strong team who just pipped the Yellows to (eventually non-existent) promotion last season. Supporters, subs and squad members all huddled together under one (very) large golf umbrella as the rain absolutely lashed down, helped along by the usual fierce wind that the sloping M56-adjacent pitch always seems to have blowing across it. However, with the wind behind them, Stingers started brightly and raced into a two nil lead, with Eve getting a brace in the first 15 minutes. Me, Jo and Sarah were actually late arriving, so missed both these goals, but I'm sure they were great - Eve usually provides good entertainment in the box.

The game continued with end to end action, both teams finding conditions hard work, but Stingers increased their lead a while later (sorry, forgot to get timings!) when Rachael Taylor crossed in from the left, and Eve caught the Frodsham defence napping, beat the offside trap, turning and slotting a grass (mud?) cutter inside the right hand post. We had a bit of a cheer, but by then we were all too frozen and weighed-down with water to jump around much. Just before half time Frodsham made a raid into Stingers half, working their way down the right hand side, and after a few goes, crossed to the other side of the box and shot into the net leaving Maxine stranded in the mud and a jumping Katie Fingers unable to stop the ball going in. At this point a strange feeling of déjà vu crept over me: Was it last season that we were 3-0 up here and ended up drawing 3-3?

The goal obviously lifted Frodsham, as they started the second half better, going close after two (or is that 47?) minutes (timing back in action!), only being thwarted by a great save from Max, who just tipped a shot over the bar. The warning signs were there though, and five minutes later it was 3-2 as the girls in the stripes sent a wind-assisted ball through the middle of our defence, leaving  a one-on-one with the keeper, which was coolly shot into the far corner. Stingers upped their game again, but the high wind and boggy pitch meant they found it hard to get the ball on the deck and passed round in their usual style. Play was often compacted in midfield, with balls sent through by both sides that weren't capitalized on. Rachael went close with a shot that held up in the wind so long, at one stage it looked like it might end back with her again, boomerang style, only to be palmed round the post by the Frodsham keeper.

After Eve lost a contact lens, Claire was subbed on, nearly latching on to a through ball immediately, only to see it gathered by the grateful Rangers keeper. Next a mud-spattered Jackie Ryan (she actually looked like she'd been in a mud wrestling contest) (she is American after all!) was replaced by Polly, who joined Nichola and Claire upfront. With Stingers trying to increase their lead, Frodsham got a corner up the other end at 3.06. This was turned into a cross-cum-shot that curled up and over the Stingers defence. Max managed to get a hand on the ball, knocking it onto the ground, only to see it blow over the line (no, really). 3-3. Bugger (and f**k, s**t, b**t**d, b*ll**ks - just for the bloke who asked Karen to stop swearing).

The last half hour was hard work for both teams (and supporters!), but Frodsham now had the scent of victory in their nostrils (or was it the petrol fumes from the motorway?), and with minutes to go managed to get a penalty after a major ping-pong session in the box. I couldn't really see if it was or wasn't a pen, but I know we would've all been shouting for one if the same thing had happened while we were attacking. Needless to say the spot kick was converted, the final whistle went and Frodsham went crazy.

To say that the weather played its part in the result is a major understatement, and all the players deserve credit for working their socks off in such atrocious conditions. It came as a shock to watch this defeat, having not seen the Yellows beaten since last September, however, our record is still won 13, drawn 2, lost 3, and that's just fantastic if you ask me. Remember girls, April showers bring May flowers, and hopefully it'll be the Yellows holding the winners bouquets at the Divisional Plate final!
