Match Report
On a blustery wet Sunday, Stingers faced a very young Wigan side with
players missing and Shell stepping in as Karen. A few players faced
playing a full 90 minutes which was a test on it's own. Stingers knew
they
faced a hard game especially with a ref that accepted many 2 footed
challenges on Stingers players.
Wigan scored when the ball was taken around me but Stingers played
some
good football on a rough pitch. Maxine was challenged shockingly in
the
first 10 minutes and had to go off and on came Emma to replace her.
Within
minutes Emma was perceived to have brought the Wigan player down which
was
ridiculous ( I am so glad coach wasn't there as it could of turned
ugly),
and Wigan amazingly got a penalty.
Wigan were 2 up at half time but
Stingers were determined to try and score. Irish Emma came close when
she
broke free but hit the cross bar. Scouse was getting challenged quite
heavily and I could only wince at the challenges, then it was my turn!
It
was one on one and I can only say that I was chopped in mid air and
for
some bizarre reason the ref gave them offside! I do have the bruise
the
size of Cornwall on my left thigh it anyone wants to see it. Aisha
came on and did a good job with getting forward, then Wigan
got a third when the ball just got under my body. More challenges came
from Wigan and eventually they got booked for a clear red card challenge
on
Shell which left the old dear winded again.
Stingers should be immensely
proud of their performance as everybody gave 100% on what was clearly
not
our day. We will dust
our
new kit down to face Airbus next Sunday at home.
