Match Report
Bee’s Eye View:
My notes for this game started as “end to end stuff, very tight
game against a well organised Macc Town”. In fact they ended
as that too because I got so wrapped up the match that I forgot to
write anything else down!
For the home team Armstrong, Jinny, Rachael, Irish Nic and Scouse all
had plenty of shots on goal, only to see the ball blocked time after
time (that’ll be that well organised Macc Town defence – they
weren’t runners up last season for nothing!). Jinny and Rachael
battled it out down the wings against very physical opposing players
(Jinny especially came in for a few clattering tackles). Player of
the match Vicky, Irish Nic (she’s here, she’s there, she’s
every f**king where) and Scouse worked tirelessly in midfield, moving
the ball forward or stopping it heading back the other way.
At the back, after a few lapses on Sunday, Stingers defence held firm
(the team have conceded the least number of goals in the league so
far this season), with club captain Shelley a rock in the middle, Scooby
her usual skillful, unflustered self, Maxine sliding in with some timely
interceptions, Katie Fingers making plenty of assured clearances as
ever and Mickey a commanding presence between the sticks.
The Yellow’s nearly even won it in the last five minutes, with
Sunday’s super-sub Irish Emma just shooting over the bar and
a goal-bound header from Irish Nic cleared off the line at the death.
So there we go, it’s all still to play for on Sunday as the team
make their way to Wales to face Airbus, only needing a draw to possibly
clinch the league title on the last day of the season.
Remember girls, whatever happens on Sunday, win, lose or draw, this
will be a season to remember, with the team gaining their highest league
position in the club’s seven year history. See you Sunday, with
musical instruments, lucky bees, crossed fingers, held breath and a
great deal of excitement!
Idiots of the match: A certain rival team’s players coming to
support the opposition (again!).
Effort of the match: Every member of the Stingers team on that pitch – you
all worked your socks off!
